SAVI
a poem by Nadia López directed and performed by Lia Tonalli photographed by Rubén Galvánwith the assistance of Rodrigo Beltrán
Some time ago, I ran into Lia at a party that eventually ended in a field of flowers. We pulled out our phones to record how beautiful the sunset looked. It didn’t take long to realize that our phone cameras were terrible. We smashed them against a nice stone and promised we would come back with a real camera. There was no plan—just the desire to go out into the field and film whatever happened. After a few months, we got together to review the footage, and there were many things we liked. Lia told me about a poem she had found and her interest in doing something with the material we had collected. We made a thousand versions, trying to adapt it to a thousand opinions, without reaching a result we truly liked. We decided to listen to each other and make something just for ourselves, and this is the result of that exercise. Many thanks to Mino Mino for the jewelry, to Roy for the help, and of course to Lia for the adventures against the mosquitoes.
From Lia:Savi is born from a fervent need to CREATE, to connect worlds and weave visions together. I met Rubén in a field of flowers, where creativity guided us until it brought us here.We let ourselves be carried by our curious gaze. We got together several times to film—sometimes in nature and sometimes at home. I came across a poem by @nadialopgar that touched my heart, so I suggested integrating it into what we were creating, which, to be honest, we didn’t know exactly where or how it would end. The result was not something clearly present in our minds. So, after three years, with the support of several people, we managed to create this video poem for everyone who resonates with the elements, poetry, and women. On a personal level, this project has been a testament to how valuable and powerful teamwork is.Thank you, my friend Ruben, Caro and Rodrigo. Thanks as well to Rojo, who created the music in another of the many versions we have.Create without fear—because that’s why we’re here.
